Opened in 1973, Pumpernickels takes its guests on a virtual tour of Germany from the moment they step inside with authentic German decor and cuisine. Even the restaurant’s staff members don traditional German outfits.

On the eatery’s massive lunch and dinner menus, you’ll find German specialties like Wiener schnitzel, roast pork loin, veal cordon bleu, bratwurst and more. There are also plenty of fresh seafood options including broiled salmon with dill sauce, fried bay scallops, broiled imported lobster tails and more.

There’s no shortage of traditional side options, either: take your pick from mashed potatoes, potato dumplings, German onions, potato pancakes, Bratkartoffeln (a type of German fried potato), Spätzle (a type of noodle dumpling) and more.

And of course, no meal at Pumpernickels is complete until it’s been washed down with one of the restaurant’s many authentic German beers and lagers.

It’s no surprise that Pumpernickels’ commitment to providing a German experience has earned the establishment a 4.4/5-star rating on its unofficial Facebook page and a 3.5/5-star rating on Yelp. Some regulars have even commented with ordering advice for their favorite dishes:

“This place has been around for years. Holds up. Great staff and owners. All I have to say is order the pigs knuckle, aka the pork shank, call in ahead to order it before you arrive so they can braise and time it right for you.  Great beer, great sides. Stick with the German food on the menu. Good stop. Do it,” wrote D.J. in a March 23 Yelp review.

Pumpernickels Restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and for dinner from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday dinner hours are 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, visit the website.
